PTSD Therapist Accepting Veterans Affairs in British Columbia Canada

PTSD Therapist Accepting Veterans Affairs in British Columbia Canada

If you’re a veteran or first responder, you’ve likely seen and experienced things most people never will. The weight of those memories can feel relentless—flashbacks, anxiety, and emotional numbing that don’t seem to go away, no matter how much time has passed.

Maybe you find yourself on edge in situations that used to feel safe. Or you avoid certain places, people, or even emotions altogether just to make it through the day. It’s not just in your head. These responses are your mind and body trying to protect you.

You’re not broken. You’re responding to pain that hasn’t had a chance to fully heal. And you don’t have to navigate this alone.

As a Canadian Certified Counsellor, I offer a warm, respectful space where you can begin the journey toward recovery with support that honours your story, your courage, and your need for real, lasting change.

I’m Maribel Ayala, a Canadian Certified Counsellor

Specialized Trauma Therapist Serving Veterans and First Responders

My name is Maribel, and I’ve devoted my practice to helping adults heal from trauma, PTSD, and the deep emotional scars that come from overwhelming life experiences. I’m an EMDR Certified Therapist and EMDR Consultant, and I work with clients across British Columbia through my practice, Maribel Ayala Psychotherapy and Consulting.

With advanced training in EMDR, Brainspotting, Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), and Clinical Hypnosis, I offer a range of evidence-based approaches designed to meet you where you are. Whether you’re just starting to explore therapy or returning to do deeper work, I’ll tailor your care to fit your needs at your pace.

I am a proud mental health provider with Veterans Affairs Canada and offer flexible weekdays, evenings, and weekend appointments by request.

Common Challenges I Help With

Many of my clients are veterans or first responders struggling with:

  • Flashbacks or distressing memories that appear out of nowhere
  • Intense emotional reactions to triggers, sometimes without knowing why
  • Difficulty trusting others or feeling emotionally connected
  • Avoiding people, places, or conversations that remind them of the past
  • Sleep issues, hypervigilance, or a constant sense of unease
  • Feeling disconnected from themselves or their loved ones

These symptoms don’t mean you’ve failed. They’re signs of unresolved trauma. Through trauma-focused therapy, we can begin to gently shift those patterns and help you find relief.

What Therapy Looks Like with Me

Our work together begins with a conversation where you’re heard, respected, and never rushed. From there, I develop a personalized treatment plan based on your goals and your comfort level.

Some of the therapies I offer include:

  • EMDR Therapy for PTSD: A proven method for safely reprocessing traumatic memories
  • Brainspotting: Brain and body-based therapy that helps release trauma stored deep in the nervous system
  • Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR): An evidence-based therapy for trauma and PTSD grounded in neuroscience
  • Clinical Hypnosis: A guided, therapeutic process to help address and modify certain behaviors, thoughts, or feelings
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): A type of psychotherapy that helps individuals understand and change their thought patterns and behaviors
  • You’ll have access to a wide range of trauma-informed, evidence-based psychotherapies, all grounded in empathy and tailored to your unique journey.

What Healing Can Look Like

Trauma recovery isn’t about forgetting the past. It’s about loosening its grip on your present.

Many of my clients find that, over time, they:

  • Sleep more peacefully and feel less reactive during the day
  • Are able to talk about painful experiences without becoming overwhelmed
  • Reconnect with their partners, children, or friends in meaningful ways
  • Feel more grounded and in control of their emotional responses
  • Rediscover a sense of purpose, joy, and possibility

These changes are real and within reach. With consistent support and the right therapeutic approach, you can feel more like yourself again, even after everything you’ve been through.
