EMDR therapy in London Ontario

EMDR therapy in London Ontario

If you’ve been living with painful memories, flashbacks, or anxiety that seems to come out of nowhere, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to keep holding it all by yourself. Whether your trauma comes from a single event or a long history of painful experiences, EMDR therapy can help you begin to heal in a way that feels safe, focused, and empowering.

I offer EMDR therapy in London Ontario, for adults ready to address the deep impact of trauma and reclaim a sense of peace. If the past keeps showing up in your present, I’m here to support you in finding relief.

My Approach to Trauma Therapy

I’m Maribel Ayala, a Registered Psychotherapist and EMDR Certified Therapist and EMDRIA Approved EMDR Consultant. I specialize in trauma recovery and work with adults, including first responders and veterans, who are carrying invisible wounds. My sessions are grounded in empathy and curiosity, never judgment. I meet you where you are and offer an integrative, mind-body approach to healing.

In addition to EMDR, I integrate methods like Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), Brainspotting, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Clinical Hypnosis, tailoring each session to your needs. I also provide culturally informed care and am trained to work with complex trauma, PTSD, and the nervous system’s response to stress.

Common Challenges I Help With

Many of my clients come to therapy feeling exhausted, emotionally, mentally, and physically. Trauma can make it difficult to feel safe in your body or present in your life. You might be:

  • Re-experiencing painful events through flashbacks or nightmares
  • Struggling with trust, relationships, or emotional closeness
  • Avoiding situations that trigger fear or discomfort
  • Constantly on edge or feeling disconnected from yourself

These responses make sense in the context of what you’ve been through. EMDR therapy offers a way to gently process those experiences and move forward without reliving them.

What to Expect from EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer feel overwhelming. Rather than talking about your trauma in detail, we focus on how your body and mind are holding onto the memory and work to shift how it’s stored.

During our sessions, I’ll guide you through this process at a pace that feels right for you. Sessions are structured yet flexible, and always grounded in safety. We may also incorporate Brainspotting or DBR to deepen the work when needed.

Therapy with me includes:

  • A personalized treatment plan built around your goals
  • Practical tools to manage flashbacks, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm
  • Supportive, trauma-informed care rooted in science and compassion

Why EMDR Therapy Works

The clients I work with often describe feeling “stuck” before starting EMDR. After several sessions, many experience meaningful shifts, less anxiety, fewer triggers, more emotional regulation, and better sleep. You might notice feeling calmer in situations that used to feel impossible, or more able to connect with the people you care about.

For those seeking EMDR therapy in London Ontario, its surrounding region, and throughout the province, especially first responders, veterans, or anyone navigating complex trauma, this work can be life-changing. It’s not about erasing the past, it’s about changing your relationship to it so it no longer controls your present.
