Trauma Therapist for PTSD and Complex Trauma Recovery in Ontario

Trauma Therapist for PTSD and Complex Trauma Recovery in Ontario

If you’re carrying the weight of scary memories, feeling on edge, or shutting down when life gets too much, you’re not alone. I’m Maribel Ayala, a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC),  Registered Psychotherapist (Ontario), and EMDR Certified Therapist/EMDR Consultant. I offer trauma-informed therapy for adults in Ontario and across Ontario online. My approach is warm, steady, and science-based, so you can feel safer in your body, calmer in your mind, and more like yourself again.

About Me — How I Work

I believe healing happens in a relationship: you bring your lived experience; I bring training, attunement, and practical tools. I work with PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, and the lingering effects of difficult life events. As a proud mental health provider with Veterans Affairs Canada, I also support veterans and first responders with culturally aware, confidential care. Sessions are available on weekdays, with evening and weekend appointments by request. I also offer secure online sessions for clients across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Newfoundland, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

What You Might Be Struggling With

Trauma can show up as nightmares, flashbacks, irritability, numbness, panic, people-pleasing, or a sense that your body isn’t on your side. Many clients tell me they’re tired of white-knuckling their way through the day. If you’ve been searching for a trauma therapist for PTSD and complex trauma recovery in, Ontario, you’ve already taken a meaningful step.

Therapies I Use (Always at Your Pace)

You’ll have access to a range of trauma-informed, evidence-based psychotherapies, tailored to your goals and comfort level:

  • EMDR Therapy for PTSD — a proven method to safely reprocess traumatic memories and reduce distress.
  • Brainspotting — a brain- and body-based approach that helps process and overcome emotional and psychological trauma. Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) — a neuroscience-grounded therapy that works  by gently and safely activating the brain’s inherent healing processes
  • Clinical Hypnosis — guided, focused work that supports change in thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) — practical strategies to shift unhelpful thinking and build new patterns.

What to Expect in Therapy

Our work is collaborative and consent-based. In early sessions, we map your history gently and build tools for stabilization, grounding, breath, and nervous-system regulation—so you feel safer day to day. When you’re ready, we may process difficult memories using EMDR, Brainspotting, or DBR. You set the pace. You can pause at any time. Between sessions, I’ll offer simple practices to help you notice progress and keep momentum without overwhelm.

How Therapy Helps

Clients often notice fewer triggers, steadier sleep, and more room for joy. Relationships feel easier to navigate. Boundaries become clearer. Many describe a stronger sense of “I can handle this,” along with renewed connection to values, culture, and community. If you live in Ontario or elsewhere in the province, we can meet online so support fits realistically into your life.

Support for Veterans & First Responders

Service-related trauma can be cumulative and complex. I offer respectful, trauma-specific care for veterans, police, nurses, firefighters, paramedics, dispatchers, and correctional officers. I’m familiar with operational stress injuries, moral injury, and the ripple effects on home life. If you’re a veteran or first responder seeking online trauma therapy in Ontario, you’re welcome here.

Is This the Right Fit for You?

Therapy with me is:

  • Relational and culturally responsive — your identity and lived experience are honoured.
  • Body-aware and practical — we work with your nervous system and day-to-day realities.
  • Evidence-based — modalities selected to match your goals, not the other way around.
