Trauma Therapy Therapist British Columbia

Trauma Therapy Therapist British Columbia

If you’ve been through something painful, whether recently or years ago, it might feel like that pain follows you everywhere. You may be struggling with flashbacks, anxiety, numbness, or simply feeling stuck. As a trauma therapist serving clients across British Columbia, I want you to know: you’re not broken, and healing is possible.

Hi, I’m Maribel Ayala, a Registered Psychotherapist. I specialise in trauma therapy, offering a safe and supportive space for people navigating the deep emotional wounds that trauma can leave behind. Whether you’re dealing with PTSD, complex trauma, or the lasting effects of a difficult experience, I’m here to walk beside you as you heal, at your own pace and in your own way.

About Me and How I Work

I bring warmth, clinical expertise, and a deep respect for each person’s unique journey. I’m a certified EMDR therapist and consultant, trained in evidence-based trauma therapies including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Brainspotting, Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), CBT, and Clinical Hypnosis. These methods go beyond traditional talk therapy and work with both the mind and body, because trauma isn’t just a memory; it’s something we carry physically, too.

I work with adults across British Columbia, including first responders, veterans, and those who’ve lived through interpersonal, developmental, or attachment trauma. Therapy with me is collaborative and deeply client-centred. You don’t have to have all the answers when you arrive. We’ll figure things out together, one step at a time.

Common Struggles My Clients Face

Many of the people I work with come to therapy feeling emotionally exhausted, on edge, or disconnected from themselves and others. Some are experiencing:

  • Nightmares, flashbacks, or intrusive memories
  • Trouble trusting people or maintaining relationships
  • Difficulty staying present in the moment
  • Avoidance of places or situations that feel triggering
  • A persistent sense of shame, guilt, or numbness

If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to keep living this way. Trauma therapy in British Columbia can offer real relief and long-term change.

What to Expect in Trauma Therapy

Your therapy journey is completely tailored to you. Our sessions will focus on creating safety and building trust, because healing only happens when you feel supported and understood.

In our work together, we might use EMDR to gently reprocess painful memories, Brainspotting or DBR to access trauma stored in the body, or CBT to help shift unhelpful patterns of thinking. These trauma-informed approaches are designed to help you regain a sense of control, calm, and emotional balance.

You won’t be rushed. You’ll be heard.

How Trauma Therapy Can Help

With consistent support and the right therapeutic tools, many of my clients begin to feel more like themselves again. Some of the outcomes we work toward include:

  • Fewer triggers and flashbacks
  • Improved sleep and energy levels
  • Stronger emotional regulation and coping skills
  • Reconnection with loved ones and a sense of purpose
  • Feeling grounded, present, and hopeful for the future

Whether you’re in Vancouver, Victoria, or anywhere else in British Columbia, trauma therapy can help you move forward with strength and resilience.
